What to expect before and after breast augmentation surgery

I know that many of us saw Majella O’Donnell on The Late Late Show a couple of weeks ago.

The business woman and wife of singer Daniel spoke about her breast cancer diagnosis, and then had her head shaved live on TV. The public’s reaction was so strong that the Irish Cancer Society website crashed from the volume of people trying to donate, and within a few days they had received €400,000 in donations.

This generosity was wonderful, but it is also appropriate to the number of people affected by this terrible disease.  Consider these numbers from the Irish Cancer Society:

• 1 in 3 people in Ireland will develop cancer at some stage in their lives
• 1 in 10 women in Ireland will get breast cancer during their lifetime
• 2,600 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year – and 660 women die from the disease

So what can we do to support Majella, the thousands of women in her position, and the tens of thousands who will be diagnosed in the future? We can all fight breast cancer by getting involved in the ‘Get the Girls‘ campaign.

Get the Girls is the Irish Cancer Society’s fundraising drive for breast cancer. The Irish Cancer Society relies on the general public for 95% of its funding, as it receives less than 5% in government funding.

We’re determined to do our part – so we’re delighted to announce that The Avoca Clinic will be supporting the ‘Get the Girls’ campaign for the month of October. We will donate a percentage of all breast surgery fees to the charity this month. This includes breast augmentation, breast reduction and breast uplift surgery and male breast surgery for Gynaecomastia. You’ll also see us selling pins in the clinic if you pop in.
