A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is a procedure designed to enhance your body contour by making your abdomen firmer and flatter.
The procedure is ideally suited for women who would like to regain their pre-pregnancy shape, their muscle control and remove stretch marks, if present, below the naval. It is also very suitable for patients who have experienced significant weight loss and are left with unsightly, excess skin that they wish to be removed.
Some patients will also require or desire liposuction during their tummy tuck surgery. In this case, the combined tummy tuck and liposuction is what we refer to as “complete abdominal re-shaping”.
As our specialist plastic surgeons are abdominoplasty experts we offer different variations of the tummy tuck and will plan each patient’s surgery to suit their individual needs.

“I just wanted to drop you a line to say the biggest thank you to the whole team at The Avoca Clinic, from the initial consultation right through to the aftercare. I cannot explain or thank you enough for giving me back my confidence, you have no idea how much this means to me. I was put at ease, from initially speaking to the surgeon and also to a previous patient, to get first hand, honest opinions on the surgery – which I thought was a brilliant touch. The results are just far better than my expectation and would highly recommend the procedure to anyone that would like to have a tummy tuck, but perhaps are too nervous or afraid.”

Tummy Tuck Following Weight Loss
Having undergone significant weight loss, many people can be left with loose skin on various parts of their body which can prove to be very unsightly. Both men and women will decide for aesthetic reasons to undergo a tummy tuck to rid themselves of the loose skin.
Tummy Tuck Following Pregnancy
While your tummy size grows during pregnancy, the muscle wall is compromised. Some women, although they are very few, are left with their pre-pregnancy tummy and no stretch marks following pregnancy. For the less fortunate, whilst the joy of motherhood is unrivalled, there is no doubt that they’d love to have their old tummy back.
The tummy tuck can help achieve this by removing the excess skin, tightening back the muscle wall if necessary and of course removing stretch marks if present below the belly button.
This is a procedure similar to the standard abdominoplasty but the surgeon will also perform internal liposuction during the procedure. This technique was pioneered in Brazil and we have been performing this particular type of tummy tuck for three years now with great success. The results are a sculpted and tightened tummy.
The surgery can take between 2 to 3 hours and is carried out under general anaesthetic. Following surgery, you will stay overnight in one of our private rooms, where you will recuperate under the care of our expert medical team.
Results & Recovery
After surgery, you will be wearing a support garment, which will aid in your recovery post-surgery. You will be asked to diligently follow all of your discharge instructions so that you will recover as safely and speedily as possible.
Your post-operative dressing appointments will be booked on the day of your surgery. These dates are set in advance, however if they do not suit you we recommend that you attend your GP. We will also schedule a 2 to 3-week review with your plastic surgeon.
From then on, you will have all the reassurance that comes with our “Open Door” aftercare policy. It’s simple: once you have been treated at The Avoca Clinic, our door will always be open to you, anytime you need us. So, when we promise to take care of you before, during and after your procedure, we really mean it.
Your Questions Answered
What does the tummy tuck procedure involve?
The procedure involves the removal of excess skin and fat and the tightening of muscles in the abdominal area.
What is a fat transfer?
Also known as fat grafting or fat injections, this procedure transfers fat from areas in which you have excess fat and injects it into the areas that may be lacking in volume, such as your face, hands, breasts or buttocks. If you are interested in exploring this option, your consultant will be happy to discuss it with you.
What about scarring and recovery time?
While there will be a permanent incision line following your surgery, the good news is that this fades with time and is generally positioned in such a way that it can be easily concealed by underwear or swimwear.
Recovery after a full abdominoplasty varies from patient to patient but women, who diligently follow our discharge instructions, will normally be back to work within 10 to 14 days. A mini tummy tuck recovery is slightly shorter, with the approximate recovery time being 7 to 10 days.
