A breast lift (mastopexy) is the best way to raise and re-shape the breasts that are going through ‘breast ptosis’ (or sagging). You might notice lost volume and shape following pregnancy or weight loss, or due to the ageing process and gravity. In short, a breast uplift is the removal of excess skin from the breast area therefore allowing you to have more pert breasts following surgery.
A past patient of The Avoca Clinic, Louise Quinn, has documented her breast uplift journey in a series of vlogs. Check out her pre-and post-surgery experiences here.
Your Breast Lift (Mastopexy) Procedure
A breast lift can improve the appearance of the breasts in several ways:
- It elevates the breast tissue
- It repositions the nipple and areola (pigmentation around the nipple)
- It enhances breast shape.
The procedure duration can vary but most often takes 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on whether you would like to have implants or not. In most cases, we would prefer a patient to stay overnight after their surgery and we would be delighted to discuss your options in full at your consultation.
Results & Recovery
Following breast surgery, you will be required to wear a support or post-op bra for several weeks from when you leave our clinic. You will be asked to diligently follow our discharge instructions so that you will recover as safely and speedily as possible. This is done in your best interest which is our main concern post-surgery.
After your breast lift surgery, you will be given your first set of post-operative dressing appointments. These days are set in advance, however if these time slots don’t suit you we advise that you attend your GP instead.
We will also schedule a 2 to 3-week review with your plastic surgeon. For your complete assurance, we have a nurse-on-call 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year to answer any questions you may have after your procedure.
From then on, you will have all the reassurance that comes with our “Open Door” aftercare policy. It’s simple: once you have been treated at The Avoca Clinic, our door will always be open to you, anytime you need us. So, when we promise to take care of you before, during and after your procedure, we really mean it.
Your Questions Answered
Can I have a breast uplift and implants at the same time?
Many women ask to have a breast augmentation (implant) and a lift performed at the same time. While we can of course facilitate this, we can only carry out this surgery in cases where the patient requires a small implant.
If the patient requests a larger implant, the surgery should be carried out in two stages, with the augmentation performed first, followed by the uplift within 2 to 3 months.
What about scarring and recovery time?
The good news is that techniques have evolved and most women in the hands of our expert surgeons at the Avoca Clinic will just have the periareolar incision or ‘lollipop scar’. The recovery time varies from patient to patient but a recent survey shows that most women who diligently follow our discharge instructions will be back at work within 10 days of this procedure.
