Cosmetic Surgery Advice

Cosmetic surgery is a gift to yourself, and a chance to address whatever it is you don’t like about yourself. As our patient Phoebe said in her breast augmentation blog:

“If you can change something you’re not happy with, then change it.”

The right procedure is a helping hand in making a new, more confident you. But before you consider making this change, be it big or small, we recommend you think about these little practicalities…

1. What do you want done?

Have a good think about what you’d like to change, and ask whether this change is realistic. If you want to change your body shape, remember that liposuction works well on stubborn, small deposits of fat, but it won’t combat obesity. If you’re not happy with your face, ask yourself what it is you specifically don’t like. If it’s a breast augmentation, take your time thinking about how exactly you’d like them to look, exactly what size and how your day-to-day life would be different.

2. What’s your schedule?

Would you like to look better for a specific event such as a wedding, Christmas or a holiday? When is a good time for you to allow for recovery? Different procedures have different recovery times – sometimes lasting just under a week. Plan the procedure so you have plenty of time afterwards to recover and make the most of the results.

3. Get to know your Surgeon

Here at The Avoca Clinic, we have a top team of international and Irish surgeons who will reassure our patients about any concerns they might have. Have a list of questions ready – you can ask us anything you want. Feel free to talk to your GP before coming in to chat with us too. Your comfort and confidence are our concern.

4. Look after yourself before and afterwards

Make sure your general diet and fitness levels mean you are generally healthy before undergoing cosmetic surgery (naturally we’d recommend this for any kind of procedure). Everyone needs support during the recovery time, so ask your partner or a close friend or relative to be by your side in the lead-up and recovery process. We have more advice on preparing for cosmetic surgery here.

5. Plan to enjoy your new look

This is the fun part: We’re confident that you’ll be delighted with your new look, so think about how you’re going to enjoy it. Are there clothes you’d been putting off buying before this procedure? Is there anything you’d been putting off doing such as a beach holiday or social event? While you should think carefully about the decision to get the procedure, don’t be afraid to also think about enjoying the benefits as soon as possible.
