Your Consultation

What to Expect from a Consultation

The first step in finding a new you is a conversation. At Avoca Clinic, we pride ourselves on our professionalism, quality of work and our compassion.

It’s natural to be curious or even nervous before undergoing any surgery, but our consultations are designed to be reassuring and informative. We recommend allowing one hour for your first appointment.

You will not be rushed.

You will be informed.

We welcome questions.

Our empathetic, informative and professional consultations with one of our team of esteemed Plastic Surgeons are frequently mentioned in our customer reviews and testimonials.

Many of our patients recommend a consultation if you have any doubts, including model and personal trainer Jessica Kavanagh, who had a breast augmentation; mum and parenting journalist Roberta von Meding, who had an abdominoplasty, and Ciara Drea, a fitness model who had a breast augmentation.

Here’s what to expect…

Step One – Listening

patient and doctor discussing options

The first step in a consultation in the Avoca Clinic is listening. We want to know what you’d like to change, what concerns you have (if any) and how we can reassure and inform you.

Then we’ll take a look at the area that you want to be addressed, making sure that it’s doable, practical and something we can help you with. We like to ensure that you get the best treatment possible and that everything is clear.

Based on initial examinations, we’ll often have an idea of what’s feasible and what’s not.

Step Two – Information

If you think this is a procedure for you, we’ll talk you through the process, what we do, the recovery time and any possible discomfort you might experience. In the interest of full disclosure, we also discuss potential risks and complications (even if minor).

If you have doubts or questions, don’t be afraid to let us know. As one patient, Maria Redmond (who had breast reduction surgery) said:

“I met with my surgeon and the team and they were so professional. You can tell they have had so many people like me in a similar position. They were able to empathise with me, which was lovely, every avenue was covered with them”.

Just as we like to know as much as possible about what you want; we also like to inform our patients about every single step. Transparency is important to us.

Step Three – Options

Once the procedure is agreed upon, we can show you your options. This might include before and after pictures of patients who have undergone similar procedures. This gives an idea not just of the beautiful, positive results patients have experienced, but of any potential side-effects or small scarring.

In the case of our breast augmentation patients, we can show very specific, bespoke estimations of results, thanks to our 3D Technology Simulation at our cosmetic surgery clinic in Wicklow. This shows you computer-generated 3D imagery of what your breasts will look like post-surgery, based on your specific body shape and breasts. The Breast Suite is often a patients’ favourite part of the process, where you will see your images and also, try on all of the implant options that are available to you.

Step Four – Choosing, Finance and Cooling Off

At this stage, you might want to go into the business part of the conversation; finalizing your decision and working out dates for the procedure.

In the weeks following your consultation you have time to put together any questions or concerns you might have (we encourage it) and if you wish you may like to have a subsequent consultation. Of course, at this time you can also decide if you want to go through the procedure or not. A consultation is there to inform you, not to convince you.

Should you decide to proceed with your surgery we will organise your admission information and further medical assessments when required.

Avoca Clinic – We Care

At Avoca Clinic, we’re in the business of improving lives. It’s something we don’t take lightly, so we see the consultation phase as an opportunity to find out what the patient wants, what’s right for them and to address any questions or concerns they have.

This is a calm, relaxed and friendly experience. And if you’d like to know more about it, please do feel free to fill out a form and get in touch.
