There is no typical reason for breast augmentation and there’s no typical breast augmentation patient. Every woman decides to do it for her own, personal reasons, and there’s no stereotypical age or size of women who undergo this procedure. The end result in almost all cases is the same though: a confident woman who is happier with her body.

To illustrate this, our patient Emily* decided to share her story. Here, in her own words, she explains why she had a breast augmentation and has never looked back since.

“I had always been envious of my older sisters and their large breasts. Everyone told me that when I got older they would get bigger but as I approached 21 I was pretty sure that my A cup was all I would be naturally blessed with. My mother and sisters didn’t have this problem and therefore couldn’t understand.

I went traveling when I was 22 with a suitcase full of padded bras and ‘maximizer’ bikinis. My friends found it hilarious when I was putting my chicken fillets in before our nights out but to be honest I was mortified and it was really starting to get me down. When I got dressed up I didn’t have a feminine shape and I had to be very careful about what I would wear so that I would not look so childlike. I tried putting on weight thinking it would increase my breast size but the only thing that got bigger was my bum!

When I got home I started to seriously think about having surgery. I got in touch with a few clinics in Dublin and gathered some information. I spoke to my mother and my sisters about the surgery and they realized how much it was bothering me and they really encouraged me to pursue it so I could improve my confidence. Around the same time one of my friends had a breast augmentation and she had a beautiful result. I made up my mind then that I would go ahead and have the surgery.

I went for a consult with Avoca Clinic and everything was very professional and informative from the first phone call. I went in for a consultation with my surgeon and all my questions were answered. I think the best part of that consultation was the Breast Suite! I had an opportunity to try on my implant size and get an idea of what I would look like after my surgery which was so exciting and I just couldn’t wait after that.

I had my surgery a few weeks later and I have never looked back since. My shape is completely different and I feel so confident with my natural-looking breasts. I can’t explain how happy I am having had the surgery and anybody who is unhappy with their breast size will know how hard it is when you don’t like what you see in the mirror. I have just come back from my first summer holiday since the surgery last year and I felt amazing – the best holiday I have had in a long time.”
