Otoplasty (Ear Reshaping / Ear Pinning)

Otoplasty (Ear Reshaping / Ear Pinning)

What is it?

Otoplasty, (sometimes referred to as ear reshaping or ear pinning) is a procedure used to reshape or reduce large or protruding ears with the aim of making them more symmetrical and / or position them closer to the head as desired. This procedure is done under local anaesthetic with a minimal recovery.

The procedure begins with the surgeon preparing an incision just behind the ear, in the natural fold. The necessary amounts of cartilage and skin required to achieve the appropriate effect are then removed. The procedure leaves virtually no trace of surgery and there is typically very little discomfort.

Otoplasty can be conducted at any age as long as the ears have reached the maximum stage of their development. The procedure is perfect for those looking to correct a deformity or to improve the overall appearance of their ears.

Results and recovery?

The majority of patients can return to work and their social activities 3-5 days after undergoing an Otoplasty. Patients are advised not to take part in any heavy physical exercise in the following few weeks after the procedure.
