Scrolling through Instagram, you often see perfectly-posed selfies taken by some of Ireland’s leading FitFam members. But despite boasting six-packs and bodies-to-die-for, gym fanatics can still have doubts over their appearance and suffer from body issues and low self-esteem.

Former breast augmentation patient and personal trainer, Siobhan OH Fitness has revealed that despite accomplishing her fitness goals, she still felt self-conscious about her body. Having been flat-chested since her teenage years, Siobhan’s new lean physique and smaller breast size started to make her feel unfeminine.

“I was getting leaner and leaner but at the same time, I didn’t feel very feminine. I just wanted to put on a bikini or sports bra and not have to stuff them with padding” said Siobhan.

Two years ago, before she started her fitness journey and became a personal trainer, Siobhan visited the Avoca Clinic to discuss breast surgery.

“It was something I had always wanted. I’d always said I wanted to get my boobs done when I was younger.

First Consultation

When I went to the Avoca Clinic the first time, I wasn’t really happy with my body but I was just thinking about doing it. But when I went in, I was convinced. I tried on the bra and everything and I was like “Oh my god I really want it”. But I think I wanted it, thinking it would fix something.

“I took the money that I was going to spend on that [breast augmentation] and ended up spending it on a personal training course. It just wasn’t the right time but everything happens for a reason” added Siobhan.

Fast forward to July 2016 and Siobhan is one of the country’s top personal trainers and has worked to achieve a physique that would be the envy of many. But despite all of this, she still had hang-ups about her breast size. Determined to do something about it, she revisited the idea of having a breast augmentation.

“It was so different when I was going in this time for my consultation. I was so happy with my body and it really wasn’t something I was doing to fix myself, it was just something I wanted. I didn’t see any negative reasons and I’m delighted with it”.

The surgeon increased Siobhan’s cup size from 34A to a 34C, which she says was a conscious decision.

“I did that on purpose, I didn’t want to go too big because I wanted to be able to wear a sports bra without looking too much in the gym. I’m now a 34C and it just looks perfect”.

Recovery Time

Her recovery time was also relatively quick and her procedure didn’t hamper her training schedule as much as you’d expect.

“I was back training legs, even though they said to take it easy, but I was back training legs within a week, the upper body a little bit after four weeks and in six weeks I was back full-steam training”.

The Best Decision

The fitness personality also kept her followers updated about her recovery through a series of vlogs. Being so open about her breast augmentation means that Siobhan now receives hundreds of emails from Irish women who, she says, are looking for reassurance to go ahead with the surgery.

“I get so many emails from women, who’ve gone into the Avoca Clinic and they’re really excited about it. They never really have a proper question for me, but I love being able to tell them just do it, it’ll be the best decision you’ve ever made.

“I have braces at the moment and to be honest, I see that as the same as changing your boobs. I don’t think there’s a huge difference. You’re doing it purely for cosmetic reasons” added Siobhan.

Finding Happiness

Boasting a full client list and an ever-growing waiting list, Siobhan’s managed to achieve both professional and personal happiness.

“I feel like I’m boasting if I go on about how happy I am, and how well everything worked out.

“I found a meaning to life, I think before that I was looking at my 9 to 5 job and I was thinking, I cannot be sitting here for the next 40 years”.

“Once I stopped chasing money and just started chasing happiness, that’s when it all worked out”.

Never one to shy away from a challenge, Siobhan is about to undertake her first Republic of Ireland Bodybuilding Federation (RIBBF) bikini competition in April, which will challenge her to cut her body fat percentage down as low as possible.

“Every meal for the next four months is accounted for, there’s no drinking, there’s no eating out, it’s the hardest I’ve ever trained. It’s a huge challenge and I just think it’s the right time now for me, hopefully”.
