Your Questions Answered

Your surgeon will discuss the size and shape you are looking for and advise on what is possible based on your natural breast size and body shape. You will be able to take your time examining the look and feel of your new breasts using the visualisation system in our Breast Suite.

Round implants add volume to the upper part of the breast giving a rounded look. Tear-drop shaped (anatomical) implants are more in keeping with the natural shape of the breast.

The incision will be made in the crease under your breast (inframammary).

Inframammary is most commonly used at The Avoca Clinic, but your surgeon will decide which type of incision is right for you, depending on your body shape and the size of your implants.

Implants can be placed either on top of the pectoralis muscle but under the breast tissue (this is known as a sub-glandular insertion), or partially beneath the pectoralis muscle (sub-muscular injection). There is also the option of using the ‘dual plane’ method in which the implant sits behind muscle in the upper breast and tissue in the lower breast.

Breast augmentation recovery depends on the patient and procedure, but the surgery requires a general anesthetic and we recommend that patients take up to 5 days off work to recover. Full recovery can take a few weeks longer, but the long-term positive effects on your day-to-day life will last much, much longer.

When you can return to work may vary according to the type of work that is carried out by the patient. You will be advised accordingly following consultation.

Preparation takes a few steps. Initially, there’s an exploratory phase, where you meet with the consultants in our breast clinic and talk about what’s right for you. This might also involve using our cutting-edge 3D Technology Simulation, in which we scan your body, show you 3D recreation of your body onscreen, and then show you the available options and what they would look like on your body.

Physical and mental preparation are also important. Breast augmentations should only be carried out on women who have not breastfed for 6 months. Additionally, it is recommended that you be at a healthy, stable weight and feel positive about the procedure.

Breast surgery (or breast augmentation) is a procedure that has been perfected over decades. It involves breast implants being inserted in front of the muscle, behind the muscle or using the sub-fascial or ‘dual plane’ placement.

We use Mentor Silicone Breast Implants from Johnson & Johnson as they are the only FDA approved implant in the world. This is important information when considering this surgery. The Avoca Clinic provide smooth and textured implants.

Implants can be placed either on top of the pectoralis muscle but under the breast tissue (this is known as a sub-glandular insertion), or partially beneath the pectoralis muscle (sub-muscular insertion). There is also the option of using the ‘dual plane’ method in which the implant sits behind muscle in the upper breast and tissue in the lower breast.

Every surgery has inherent risks. All risks and benefits of the surgery will be discussed in detail at your consultation. However, Avoca Clinic has state of the art facilities, top class surgeons with decades of collective experience and market-leading patient after-care working to ensure that our patients have the safest, most comfortable experience possible.

Additionally, every patient has full access to on-call nurses, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Breast augmentation is sometimes referred to as breast enlargement or breast enhancement. Some use the slang terms, “boob job”, “fake boobs” or “boob implants” however breast augmentation is the correct term.

Hear from out patients

“I’m absolutely delighted with them. I was so happy that I went for the ultra-high profile. I sometimes think maybe I should have gone a bit bigger, but I think that’s what happens when you get used to having them, but no I’m really really happy with them, I love them”.
