Breast augmentation is the most popular operation we perform at the Avoca Clinic. It alters the size and shape of your breasts with a synthetic implant, which is surgically inserted behind the breast.
Most women only wish to increase their breast size by 1 to 2 sizes in order to achieve a natural looking, increased cup size. We have found that Irish women’s main worry is that their implants will look unnatural and too big, however as we use the very best implants on the market and highly experienced surgeons, we are able to meet our patients’ expectations and more.
“Looking back on the whole process, now it’s all over, it was just a lovely experience. The actual surgery on the day, the whole process, the care that the Avoca Clinic gave me was outstanding. The aftercare: I’m still in touch with them now 7 months later. They’re just amazing. Amazing! I was really well looked after. The final result: I could not have asked for better.”

Welcome to our Breast Suite
See your new breasts on your own body in magical 3D
Imagine if you could literally try on your new breasts for size? We are delighted to be able to offer this extraordinary service. Ever since breast augmentation first became a reality, women have wanted to really see what their breasts would look like after their procedure and before deciding on size or committing to surgery. Science has finally caught up with the idea, and if the science is there, so are we.
We’ve invested in groundbreaking 3D simulation technology, which allows you to select implants of various sizes and see an actual 3D image of how they would look on your body. Our bespoke Breast Suite is a dedicated space that hosts this technology and allows you peace and privacy while you choose your new implants with the help of your pre-op advisor.
How 3D simulation technology works:
We scan your body with an iPad equipped with a special sensor. A few seconds later, an image of your body appears on a large screen in front of you in 3D. You can then select implants of various different shapes and sizes and with a single click, see how they would look on your body, comparing the new image with your actual image.
You get an actual 3D “before” and “after” view of how different sizes of implants would look on your body. It’s a great way to check a number of bra sizes or whether a round or anatomical implant would best suit your shape.
After your consultation in our Breast Suite, provided you are intending to have your surgery within the timeframe, we’ll send you a link by email where you can examine your 3D images on your iPad, laptop or phone in the comfort of your own home. It means you can take all the time you need to decide on the exact style and size of implant that’s right for you.
Your Breast Augmentation Surgery
This is one of the most tried and tested cosmetic surgery procedures and is performed under a general anaesthetic. During the surgery, the implant you chose with your surgeon is inserted through a small incision made in your breast. The procedure takes approximately 1 hour and is a day-case procedure, which means you will be able to go home that evening.
Recovery & Results
The recovery time is relatively quick for this surgery but we recommend that patients take a week off work to recover. However, this may vary according to the type of work you do. You will be advised accordingly following consultation. You may be wearing a support or post-op bra when you leave our clinic. You will be asked to diligently follow our discharge instructions so that you will recover as safely and speedily as possible.
You will also be given your post operative dressing appointments on your day of surgery. These days are set in advance, however should they not suit you we recommend you attend your GP. We will also schedule a 2 to 3-week review with your plastic surgeon. For your complete assurance we have a nurse-on-call 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year for any concerns or questions you may have after your procedure.
From then on, you will have all the reassurance that comes with our “Open Door” aftercare policy. It’s simple: once you have been treated at The Avoca Clinic, our door will always be open to you, anytime you need us. So, when we say we take care of you before, during and after your procedure, we really mean it.
Your Questions Answered
How will I know what type, size and shape of implant is for me?
Your surgeon will discuss the size and shape you are looking for and advise on what is possible based on your natural breast size and body shape. You will be able to take your time examining the look and feel of your new breasts using the visualisation system in our Breast Suite.
What’s the difference between round and teardrop shaped implants?
Round implants add volume to the upper part of the breast giving a rounded look. Tear-drop shaped (anatomical) implants are more in keeping with the natural shape of the breast.
Where will the incision be made to insert the implant?
The incision is made in one of three places:
- In the crease under your breast (inframammary)
- Under your arm (transaxillary)
- Around the nipple (periareolar)
Inframammary is most commonly used at The Avoca Clinic, but your surgeon will decide which type of incision is right for you, depending on your body shape and the size of your implants.
What’s the difference between under the muscle and over the muscle insertion?
Implants can be placed either on top of the pectoralis muscle but under the breast tissue (this is known as sub-glandular insertion), or partially beneath the pectoralis muscle (sub-muscular insertion). There is also the option of using the ‘dual plane’ method in which the implant sits behind muscle in the upper breast and tissue in the lower breast.
